Dominick Scandurro, Real Estate and Family Attorney

Dominick Scandurro, Jr. has practiced law for over 50 years in the areas of real estate transactions, real estate litigation, personal injury litigation, commercial transactions, collections, trusts, wills, and successions.

Dominick received his law degree in 1966 from Tulane University, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Tulane Law Review. He is the former president of the Plaquemines Parish Bar Association and has served as its Secretary since 1975. He has been a member of the House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1970 and currently is a representative from the 25th Judicial District.

Dominick is a former member of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, where he is a former chair of the Adjudicative Committee and is the former chair of the Administrative Committee. He is a lifetime member of the Louisiana Association for Justice and served on its Board of Governors from 1976 to 1982. In connection with his work as a Government Appeal Agent for the Selective Service System, he received Presidential Citations of Merit from Presidents Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon.

Dominick served as a pro bono member and Chairman of the Plaquemines Parish Indigent Defender Board for over 35 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Plaquemines Parish Civil Service Commission and as Chairman of the Commission, he has worked to establish and oversee proper implementation of civil service rules. He served two terms as the Chairman of the Commission and has been the Commission’s pro bono attorney for over ten years. In 1996 he received the Monte M. Lemann Award for having made the greatest contribution to the advancement of the merit system of public employment in Plaquemines Parish.

Dominick has been married to Alice Cognevich for well over 60 years and they live in the small town of Nairn in southern Plaquemines Parish. Alice and Dominick are members of St. Ann’s Catholic church in Empire and in 2016 were awarded the Order of St Louis medal by the Archdiocese of New Orleans for their dedicated support of the church community. They have three sons who are all lawyers, and five grandchildren.
