Dewey Scandurro works primarily as a mediator in civil litigation and has mediated over 250 cases. He is a member of the Panel of Neutrals appointed by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana to mediate claims related to Hurricane Ida. He has also mediated cases for the Special Masters in state courts across south Louisiana for hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida.
Dewey graduated from Tulane Law School in 1994, where was President of the Student Bar Association and represented Tulane as a member of the interschool trial team that won the Louisiana Law School Moot Court Competition. Individually, he also won the American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Advocacy, the Cicero C. Sessions Award in Trial Advocacy, and the James A. Wysocki Award in Trial Advocacy.
Dewey was trained as a mediator and arbitrator at Pepperdine Law School’s top-ranked dispute resolution program. He is pursuing an academic certificate in dispute resolution at Pepperdine and plans to continue that work to obtain an LL.M. in dispute resolution. Before working as a mediator, he practiced civil litigation in Louisiana, equally representing plaintiffs and defendants in admiralty and maritime law, personal injury, product liability, insurance litigation, and commercial litigation. He enjoys using that broad experience to find creative ways to help parties resolve complex disputes.
Dewey was born and raised in south Plaquemines Parish. He attended Buras High School and graduated from the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Dewey has served as vice-president of the Board of Trustees and co-chair of the legal committee and finance committee of the LSMSA Foundation. In 2014, he received the LSMSA Foundation’s inaugural Wingspan Award for service to the school. He is currently the New Orleans Regional Ambassador for the LSMSA Foundation’s capital campaign.
Dewey is also a competitive runner and triathlete who has won his age group once at the Louisiana state triathlon championship, twice at the Louisiana state half-marathon championship, and twice at the Louisiana Half Marathon. He has completed a 140.6-mile Ironman event and is a six-time Boston Marathon Qualifier. He lives in New Orleans with Michelle, his wife of over 25 years.
